Yellow daytime running lights give a BMW’s front-end light signature a distinctive motorsport-inspired appearance. But “CSL-style” describes a look, not a universal fitting. Before ordering, check which component your headlights need and what the installation will involve.

Before you choose: Choose yellow DRLs by chassis and headlight specification first. Then compare boards versus modules, package contents and fitting requirements. A CSL-style description does not establish factory origin, interchangeability or road-use approval.

What does a yellow DRL upgrade change?

These products change the daytime running light illumination produced by compatible components. They are not complete headlights and should not be confused with dipped-beam or main-beam bulb replacements.

The effect follows the light signature of the compatible headlight assembly. Compare the product’s images and application notes rather than expecting every BMW model to produce the same shape.

BMW 1 Series: check the headlight application

Our F20/F21 LCI yellow DRL modules are specifically listed for LED headlights. The package description includes boards and heatsinks, supplied as four modules with two per side.

That information does not make the set suitable for every 1 Series. Other chassis and lighting systems need their own matching products, even if the desired yellow colour is the same.

BMW 2 Series: distinguish F22/F23 from G42/G87

The F22/F23 pre-LCI xenon product and F22/F23/F87 LCI yellow modules have separate fitment descriptions. Check the production dates, facelift status and headlights before choosing.

The G42/G87 range also includes an explicitly non-adaptive CSL DRL module listing. Do not carry assumptions from an F22 M240i to a G42 M240i, or assume every G42/G87 headlight option uses the same parts.

BMW M3 and M4: the headline model is not enough

Our range includes different products with adaptive, non-adaptive and laser-headlight requirements. For example, the G80/G82 yellow board listing specifies EU-spec laser headlights.

Check the full listing and existing component details. If you are unsure which system you have, send photographs and available part numbers before ordering rather than selecting a product because the model badge appears in its title.

Boards or complete modules?

A board set can involve replacing the LED circuit boards on existing components and using specified thermal materials. A complete module may include the board and heatsink, but the exact contents must be confirmed.

These different formats can affect labour as well as component cost. Ask your installer which original parts are retained and what preparation the chosen kit requires.

Coding and access are separate questions

The F22/F23/F87 LCI yellow module listing states plug-and-play operation with no coding required for its stated application. That does not establish the same requirement across the whole range.

No coding does not mean unrestricted access. Some installations require bumper and headlight removal. Professional fitting is recommended for many products, particularly where thermal bonding or internal component work is involved.

Check intended use before buying

Read the product’s intended-use information and restrictions. Products described as off-road only must be treated accordingly, and a yellow colour or CSL-style name is not evidence of road-use approval.

If approval information for your intended use is unclear, ask before purchase. Keep the choice of appearance separate from confirmation of where the product is intended to be used.

Plan the final checks

Have the installer check the relevant lighting functions after fitting, including both sides and any warnings or faults. If there is already a DRL problem, diagnose it before assuming a colour change will fix it.

Frequently asked questions

Does CSL-style mean a genuine BMW CSL part?

No. The styling description alone does not establish factory origin. Read the individual product description.

Can I use one yellow module across different BMW generations?

Only where the exact product listing confirms those applications. Colour does not establish compatibility.

Will yellow DRLs replace my main headlights?

No. The boards and modules discussed here are for the compatible daytime running light function, not complete replacement headlights.
