A six-step illustrated guide to fitting matching replacement wing mirror caps on BMW F Series vehicles with standard non-M mirrors. Check chassis, mirror shape and cap fittings against your product listing before starting.

Check your mirror design first

This guide is for matching replacement caps on standard non-M mirrors, not stick-on overlays. Mirror designs and fittings vary. The illustrations are schematic. If you are unsure about glass removal or fixings, contact us for fitting assistance before proceeding.

Fragile mirror glass — risk of breakage

The mirror glass must be prised away gently, using a wide plastic trim tool behind the backing plate while supporting the glass. Never force, flex or pull the glass by its edge: glass breakage can occur. Stop if it resists and seek fitting assistance. Auto Haus Carbon is not responsible for damage caused during fitting, subject to the disclaimer below.

Important fitting and damage warning

This guide provides general fitting guidance. Vehicle designs, fixings and fittings vary. Check compatibility before starting, work carefully and never force any component. Stop and seek fitting assistance if you are unsure or encounter resistance.

You are responsible for carrying out the installation carefully. Auto Haus Carbon is not responsible for damage caused during installation or while following this guide, except where liability cannot lawfully be excluded. This does not affect your statutory rights.

How to fit replacement mirror covers

  1. Prepare and protect. Park safely. Tilt the glass to create access, then switch the ignition off. Protect the painted edges with tape. Work on one mirror at a time.
  2. Release the glass. Use a wide plastic trim tool behind the glass backing plate. Gently release it from the carrier while supporting the glass. Do not flex the glass or pull it by the edge.
  3. Support and disconnect. Support the glass. Photograph the connections, then disconnect plugs as required by your mirror design. Do not let the glass hang from its wires. Never pull the cables.
  4. Release the old cap. With the glass removed, locate and release the cap's retaining tabs. Support the outer cap and ease it away. If it resists, check for unreleased tabs or other fixings. Do not force it.
  5. Fit the new cover. Compare the fittings and align the new cap's tabs and locating guides. Press gently until secure with even gaps. Keep wiring and the indicator clear. Stop if the cap will not seat.
  6. Refit and test. Reconnect the glass wiring. Align the backing plate with the carrier and press evenly over the supported centre until secure. Check glass adjustment, indicators and folding if fitted. Repeat on the other side.
