Your headlights are a defining part of your car’s appearance. Changing the colour of the daytime running lights can give the front end a completely different character, from a motorsport-inspired yellow finish to a bold colour for an off-road build.

At Auto Haus Carbon, our daytime running light range includes model-specific DRL boards and modules for selected BMW, Audi, MINI and SEAT/Cupra models. But choosing the right upgrade means checking more than the colour.

This guide explains the difference between DRL boards and modules, highlights products from our range and shows you what to check before ordering.

What Is a DRL Upgrade?

DRL stands for daytime running light. For many cars, the distinctive light signature within the headlight is one of the most recognisable parts of the front end.

Our range includes replacement LED boards and complete DRL modules designed for particular vehicle and headlight combinations. Depending on the product, the upgrade replaces the LED board or the module that produces the daytime running light illumination.

These products are components for compatible headlight assemblies. They are not complete replacement headlights, and they should not be confused with dipped-beam or main-beam bulb upgrades.

Yellow DRLs: A Motorsport-Inspired Finish

If you want a distinctive performance look, yellow daytime running lights are a strong starting point. Our CSL-style yellow DRL products bring that motorsport-inspired finish to a variety of compatible vehicles.

The range includes options for selected BMW 1, 2, 3 and 4 Series models, M cars and SUVs, alongside Audi, MINI and SEAT applications. Each product has its own fitment requirements, so always check the individual listing.

BMW 2 Series F22, F23 and F87 LCI

BMW F22 F23 F87 LCI CSL yellow daytime running light modules

Our BMW F22, F23 and F87 LCI CSL Yellow DRL Modules are listed for 2018–2021 applications and feature a plug-and-play design with no coding required.

Have a pre-LCI car? There is a separate F22/F23 pre-LCI DRL module option for xenon headlights. The two versions should not be treated as interchangeable.

BMW G80 M3 and G82 M4 with EU-Spec Laser Headlights

Our BMW G80/G82 CSL Yellow DRL Boards are specifically listed for compatible EU-spec laser headlights.

This board set includes four DRL boards and thermal adhesive paste. Professional installation is strongly recommended. Check the full vehicle and headlight requirements on the product page before ordering.

DRL Upgrades for Audi, MINI and SEAT

Yellow DRL styling extends beyond BMW. Our collection also includes upgrades for selected Audi, MINI and SEAT models, with separate products for different generations and lighting systems.

Audi A3, S3 and RS3

Our Audi A3, S3 and RS3 Yellow DRL Boards are listed for 2017–2020 vehicles with non-Matrix LED headlights. Thermal glue is included, and professional installation is recommended.

The headlight specification matters here: a product listed for non-Matrix LED headlights should not be assumed to fit a Matrix-equipped car.

MINI Cooper and JCW

Our MINI F54, F55, F56 and F57 CSL Yellow DRL Boards cover selected applications, including JCW models. The package contains two EU-spec DRL boards, left and right, plus thermal glue paste.

Check the production dates and part-number references on the listing to confirm suitability for your MINI.

SEAT Leon

Our SEAT Leon MK3 5F Cupra Yellow DRL Boards are listed for 2017–2020 applications and include thermal glue. A separate yellow DRL board set for 2013–2016 Leon MK3 models is also available.

DRL Boards vs Complete Modules: What Is the Difference?

DRL boards are the replacement LED circuit boards. Fitting can involve transferring them onto existing components and applying thermal adhesive where specified.

Complete DRL modules may include both the LED boards and their heatsinks. For example, our BMW F20/F21 LCI yellow module listing specifies replacement boards and heatsinks, supplied as four modules.

Check the package contents carefully. A board set and a complete module set can require different installation work, even when both are offered for the same vehicle family.

How to Choose the Correct Daytime Running Lights

Before ordering, work through these checks:

  • Vehicle model and chassis: Match the exact generation, such as BMW F22 or G42.
  • Production year: Check the dates listed for the product.
  • Facelift status: Pre-LCI and LCI headlights can require different components.
  • Headlight type: Confirm xenon, LED, adaptive LED, laser or Matrix specification where relevant.
  • Regional specification: Follow any EU-spec or other regional restrictions.
  • Part numbers: Compare existing component numbers with the references provided, where available.
  • Package contents: Check whether you are buying boards or complete modules, and what fitting materials are included.

If you are unsure, email info@autohauscarbon.co.uk with your vehicle model, year, chassis code and clear photographs of your headlights. Include existing module part numbers if available.

Do DRL Upgrades Need Coding or Professional Fitting?

Some products in our range are specifically listed as plug-and-play with no coding required. This applies to those products and their stated compatible applications; it should not be assumed across the entire collection.

Plug-and-play describes the connection or integration of the component. It does not necessarily mean the headlight is easy to access or that fitting requires no specialist work.

Many of our DRL listings recommend professional installation. Follow the individual product instructions, particularly where board replacement, thermal adhesive or heatsink preparation is involved.

Other DRL Colours and Intended Use

Looking for a bolder finish? Our collection also includes selected applications in colours such as purple, red, green, blue and ice blue. Colour availability varies by vehicle and headlight specification.

Check the intended-use information before buying. Numerous coloured DRL products in our range are explicitly marked for off-road or motorsport use only. Products carrying these restrictions must not be used on public roads. A colour choice or “CSL-style” description does not establish road-use approval.

Daytime Running Light Upgrade FAQs

Will any BMW DRL module fit my BMW?

No. Compatibility depends on the vehicle generation, production date and headlight specification. Select a product that matches all of the requirements shown on its listing.

Can I fit laser-headlight DRL boards to standard LED headlights?

Do not assume compatibility. Our range contains products specifically restricted to laser headlights, alongside other products that explicitly exclude them.

Is thermal adhesive included?

Several board sets include thermal glue or adhesive paste. Check the package contents on your chosen product page rather than assuming it is supplied with every kit.

Does a DRL upgrade replace the whole headlight?

The boards and modules discussed in this guide are replacement components for compatible headlight assemblies. They are not complete headlight units.

Can Auto Haus Carbon help me choose?

Yes. Contact us before ordering if you need help identifying the right product or have fitting enquiries.
